Why Do Babies Die?

This is my question to all "christian" denominations that deny original sin. Death is the punishment for sin. Why do babies, who have no sin (in their belief), die? Death of all kinds, abortions, miscarriages, accidents, death by old age are all a part of God's judgment upon sin. We who are pardoned by the blood of Christ, although we have been saved from the "second death" (spiritual death), still must undergo the "first death" (physical death). This is because we are still sinners. Our first death as believers, I believe purges the sin that still dwells within us, to make us fit for Heaven. But if we are not concevied under Adam's federal headship, and if original sin merely means the first sin a person commits, why are babies inutero (in the womb)still subject to death, by abortion or miscarriage? How can a baby sin inutero? Most would say they can't. Why then are they punished by death for something they have not done yet?

Thanks for your thought BJ, you bringing up the dying infants going to heaven question gives me another good thought to blog about. Here we go...

BJ and Angela,

I fail to see how this is relevant to the question of if babies who die in infancy go to heaven. Babies die because they are conceived in sin. (I apologize before hand for yelling because BJ has been told this many, many times) EVEN THOSE WHO BELIEVE BABIES WHO DIE ARE ELECT DO NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE SINLESS!

This line of thought is a problem for those who do not believe in original sin, not to reformed believers throughout the church who see enough evidence in scripture to point to a decided hope for infants who die.

Hey Russ,

[BJ, correct me if I'm wrong]

I don't think BJ was trying to say that the fact that babies die is DIRECTLY related to where they go after they die. I thought he was just saying that looking at why babies die takes the question one step back.

I know that those who believe all babies who pass away are elect do believe that they have a sin nature and are bound by original sin. After all even we, as adults, even if we are regenerate, still die, because we still have a sin nature, etc...So the fact that we face physical death has no bearing upon where we go after death.

Your words: " This line of thought is a problem for those who do not believe in original sin, not to reformed believers throughout the church who see enough evidence in scripture to point to a decided hope for infants who die."

I agree. The first sentence in my post implied that I was only trying to adress those who denied original sin.

Exactly.

Thanks for clarifying your thoughts.

Location: At My House In, Southern California, United States

I am forever grateful to be Josh's wife:) I am the 25yr. old mother of four kids under 4 yrs old. Next to my Sovereign God and my sweet and adorably Godly hubby, Gabriel Luther (3 3/4yrs.), Aaron Van Til (2 1/2yrs.) , "Emmie" Rebekah Emerald (15 mos), and Owen Isaac (6 weeks old) are the greatest blessings God has given me. And yes, I am still praying for more:) I am Reformed, baptistic, presuppositional, postmillennial, idealistic, quiver-full, a cessationist, a tradutionist, and I'm sure I could go on for a while, but I don't think I would amuse anyone but myself, so I'll spare you all.
